Who We Are

Eastern Ontario Family Services is part of a National Network of counselling agencies, grounded in a history of responding to the needs of people in our community.

We work with employers to ensure their employees and family members have access to confidential counselling, information and support to deal with a variety of situations that impact their lives and affect their health and well being.

What is EAP?

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) was developed several decades ago as local community agencies started seeing a need to offer counselling expertise to workplaces in an effort to develop healthier employees and healthier workplaces.

Everyone has problems in their lives, whether it is at work or at home.  If problems at home become distracting at work, or work problems start impacting relationships at home, this creates additional stress that compounds the problem, potentially creating emotional problems or affecting physical health.  We offer professional counselling, information and support services to intervene before this happens.

These services are paid for by the employer in addition to Extended Health Care Benefits, and they are completely confidential to the employee, or family members.

Local and National Presence

Family Services is a national EAP provider with over 250 agencies in all major cities in Canada, as well as in remote areas where other resources do not exist.  The Eastern Ontario Region, including the Ottawa, Kingston, Peterborough and Cornwall Regions, is an important part of that network. Our Eastern Ontario offices and EAP staff are located in communities throughout from Pembroke and Deep River in the North-West, to Belleville, Peterborough, Kingston and Cornwall. We have a strong local presence as part of an organization that has a history of serving and being an integral part of our local communities for many decades.

What Sets Us Apart

Re-investing in the Community

We are the only non-profit EAP provider serving Eastern Ontario for decades.  Our links to the communities and neighborhoods in this area is without equal.  We are the only EAP provider that invests its revenues back into the community through Family Services’ counselling programs and community agencies.

Affordable Quality

But what we are equally proud of is that we also deliver professional services of the highest quality at affordable rates.  We do not shy away from promoting what we do best, which is provide employees and their families the very best in counselling and consulting services.  We complement this with outstanding Specialized Support services and communication tools and strategies.

Ability Management

We also stand on a philosophy of ability, versus disability management.  Optimal health and well being requires that individuals be given access to an array of services to address issues and lifestyle concerns before these concerns become chronic or impact health and work productivity. It is far likelier that employees will be productive and healthy if given real options to address issues and combat symptoms of (dis)stress. In response to this, we offer not only counseling, as early and timely intervention remains vital to an individual’s health and productivity, but we also include a menu of services, training tools and programs that assist with significant transition points in peoples’ lives and specific lifestyle concerns and barriers to optimal living.

Depth of Experience

We have tremendous relevant experience providing support across a very broad range of issues and concerns, and we have been employed by companies in virtually all employment sectors, including municipal and federal governments, police, schools, hi-tech and nursing home staff.  This experience enables us to fully understand the unique stresses and challenges that both these sectors, as well as the particular professional employees within them, face.
